According to The Washington Post, an appeals court in France has upheld the 2009 fraud conviction of the Church of Scientology which included fines of 600,000 Euros and suspended sentences for four of its members. The original charges were lodged against the church for pressuring members to give large sums of money for questionable remedies. France does not recognize Scientology as a religion. In March of 2012, the Bible College in Bethlehem will host dozens of US theologians, activists and ministries for the “Christ at the Checkpoint 2012 Conference.” Bethlehem Bible College trains Christian servant-leaders for the churches and society within an Arab context. Founded in 1979 by local Arabs, the college usually enrolls 135 students who are interested in Christian service in the Middle East.
The aim of the Christ at the Checkpoint conference was given as to provide an opportunity for evangelical Christians to prayerfully seek a proper awareness of issues of peace, justice, and reconciliation. The conference will:
• Empower and encourage the Palestinian church.
• Expose the realities of the injustices in the Palestinian Territories and create awareness of the obstacles to reconciliation and peace.
• Create a platform for serious engagement with Christian Zionism and an open forum for ongoing dialogue between all positions within the Evangelical theological spectrum.
• Motivate participants to become advocates for the reconciliation work of the church in Palestine/Israel and its ramifications for the Middle East and the world.
Giulio Meotti, Italian journalist with Il Foglio, described the conference as a major religious and political event meant to demonize Israel and to support the Palestinian Intifada against the “ethnocentric” Jewish State. The impressive range of Christian theologians and pastors from many churches located in the United States make the gravity of the upcoming conference clear.
Samuel Rodriguez, President of the US National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, is a speaker. Also attending are popular US preacher and “spiritual adviser” to Bill Clinton, Tony Campolo, and President of the World Evangelical Alliance and Asia Evangelical Alliance, Sang-Bok David Kim.
Two of the conference organisers, Stephen Sizer and Sami Awad, adamantly defended the Gaza flotilla sent in May 2010 by the Turkish terror group IHH. Another speaker, Ben White, has shared a political platform with Azzam Tamimi, who has endorsed suicide bombings against Jewish civilians in the past.
The “Bethlehem Call” manifesto, which serves as platform for the Bethlehem 2012 Conference, has just been published on the websites of the Would Council of Churches, the Global Ministries of the United Church of Christ and the Disciples of Christ.
The Bethlehem Call defines Israel as an “illegal regime” and a “crime against humanity”, it promotes “international boycott, divestment and sanctions campaigns” against Israel, labels the more neutral Churches as “accomplices in crimes against humanity” and attacks Christian Zionism as “a crime and sin as defying the core of the Gospel”.
The Bethlehem Call also updates the “Kairos Palestine,” the major document used as global tool for the Christian struggle against Israel speaking in the behalf of “us Christian Palestinians”. Even the name of the Catholic Custodian of the Holy Land, Pierbattista Pizzaballa, prominently appears among the most important signatures in the website.
The theological meeting also marks a return to “replacement theology”, the medieval view that the Church has replaced the people of Israel in God’s plan and that all biblical references to Israel refer to the “new Israel”—that is, to Christians.
Stephen Sizer, pastor of Christ Church, Virginia Water, made a statement on behalf of the conference organizing committee and the leadership at Bethlehem Bible College. The following affirmations reflect my personal convictions and hopes as well as those of the other conference organizers.
Affirmation #5 deals with Zionism. It says: Modern Zionism is a political movement created to meet the aspirations of Jews around the world who longed for a homeland. It has become ethnocentric, privileging one people at the expense of others. Christianity calls believers in Jesus to focus on building God’s kingdom on earth.
Another view of the conference has been expressed by Dalton Lifsey, from Tauranga, New Zealand. Lifsey is the Associate Director of the Tauranga House of Prayer and also manages the website http://thecontroversyofzion.com.
He wrote:
The gathering is intended to encourage …support [for] Palestinian Christians who find themselves suffering under what they refer to as “The Israeli Occupation” of Palestine. But there are serious problems with the sort of the solidarity and support that Sizer and Burge are advocating, and that other well meaning but naive Christians are embracing.
The worldview of men like Sizer and Burge rests upon the conviction that Israel is a racist and apartheid regime whose national identity and destiny has been rendered “irrelevant” by Jesus and the apostles. They argue that Israel has no right to the Land believing Israel to be a “cruel and dehumanizing” State.
Conveniently ignoring important issues like Islam, jihad, anti-Semitism, the scores of Israelis brutally slain by Palestinian terrorists that all contribute to Israel’s political posture towards Palestinians, they level the accusation that to endorse the State of Israel is “an abomination” and “heresy.” Championing justice while ignoring history and only telling part of the story is in itself an abortion of justice.
Any call to solidarity with one people group at the expense of the marginalization of another is not just, righteous, or pleasing to the Lord. And any call to support one people group at the expense of the other’s right to exist and defend themselves against those who have no problem blowing up women and children with bombs strapped to their chests is morally insane.
All believers with a conscience should readily reject a call to social justice that is predicated on the assertion that Israel is an apartheid regime and “abominable” for Christians to support (Sizer’s words). While I don’t doubt the sincerity of Sizer’s affection for the Arab Christian community in places like Bethlehem (of which I also feel) I doubt that this is what is primarily motivating his labors. Judging by his writing and teaching, the delegitimization and dismantling of the State of Israel and the discrediting of anyone who supports it.

Final Day of Fellowship in London

On my way back to Paris, soon to be under the English Channel. I had three full days here with Larry Trishkin and his congregation. Larry overseas a Messianic congregation and a Russian speaking church that is Messianic oriented. Spoke to many Jewish believers some who came from Ukraine or Russia so I was really in my element. The level of their hospitality and openness reminded me of my days in Odessa. The congregation in London has a good vision of where they want to go and I would be surprised if they did not reach what they want to see - a Messianic Jewish congregation that walks in the Spirit and in truth, that is dedicated to the Word of God and. and that yearns without apology for the salvation of the Jewish people. Dear All,

It took just 2 hours and 15 minutes to ride the train from the center of Paris to downtown London yesterday. At the famous St. Pancras station (I called it Pancreas) I met Larry Trishkin who is the messianic leader of the IAMCS congregation, Derech HaShem. The congregation joined the IAMCS in July and this was my first visit for ministry to England. Last night we gathered together 20 members of the congregation for their Erev Shabbat meeting and it was a wonderful time together. They really have a Messianic vision for their congregation and for England. We all sensed something new will be happening in the Messianic movement in England which needs a fresh wind of the Holy Spirit. Tonight I will be meeting with the leaders of the congregation and tomorrow before returning to Paris I will be speaking at a church. Norwegians boycott of Israeli goods

Israeli oranges bleeding with the blood of Palestinians? Some Norwegians thinks so. So they will boycott a supermarket chain that dares to defy their demands to stop selling products from Israel. Funny but there doesn't seem to be any interest by these boycotters about products from "Palestine" after the Palestinians indiscriminately fire rockets into civilian areas killing Israeli civilians (which happens to be a war crime). What can I conclude about this bias - that these particular Norwegians are just simply anti-Semites which means they hate Jews. Why is it that the rest of Norway doesn't seem to get it. Shalom. Scientologists demonstrate in Paris

Palais de Justice (Palace of Justice) I was just minding my business riding on the #96 bus when I noticed opposite the Palace of Justice a crowd of people carrying signs and playing drums. It was the Scientologists and they were not happy with what was going on the court opposite from their orderly "manifestation" (demonstration). An appeal was being heard of the 2009 fraud conviction of the Church. The demonstration today was aimed at what a spokesman for the Celebrity Center of the Church, Eric Roux, called bias on the part of the court against the Church of Scientology. After a ruling against the Church being able to view certain records in the court file, the representatives for the Church left the appellate courtroom according to Mr. Roux, citing this as one example of bias by the Court.

    Mr. Roux said there were approximately 45,000 Scientologists in France and that the Church was going to continue its appeal especially as they believed the current appelate court was going to support the fraud conviction. Ultimately he said they may have to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France. Since this is the first conviction of the Church of Scientology according to Mr. Roux, the Church, he said, will vigorously defend itself against what it feels is a bias against it.

   While I do not accept any of the precepts of Scientology, as a lawyer I am concerned how this kind of a ruling could be used against the Free churches and Messianic Judaism in France. There is discrimination against churches, who are not Catholic or Reformed, in where they can rent and locate their operations. And what is a cult for one person is the faith of another. Gratefully the Messianic movement has not been under governmental pressure - yet.

     Ultimately how do we oppose what we believe is spiritual blindness? Probably like Paul did with the truth, Yeshua the Messiah of Israel and Savior of the world. Shalom from Paris. David Schneier

Messianic Jewish Leadership Retreat in Crimea, Ukraine

As we approach Thanksgiving, Leslye and I thank you so much for your prayers and financial support in 2011. It means a lot to know that you are interested in what the Lord is doing amongst the Jewish people in Europe. Lots of joy in Ukraine: I, David, just returned from nine days in Ukraine splitting my time in Crimea at a leadership retreat for IAMCS congregations and interested unaffiliated Messianic leaders and pastors and in Odessa. Our hall was filled at the evening meetings with about 300 leaders and congregational members for three joyful days of worship, teaching and fellowship. One of my key topics was a biblical view of the power of Joy in our lives. It's interesting how many times joy appears in the Bible and the varied ways it manifests itself. I was surprised at sources of and effect that joy has us and how we need to see joy as more than something we can have only if we are happy. "The joy of the Lord (is truly) our strength." I took this verse to mean that both His joy over us and our joy over Him is our strength. However you look at it we have access to a joy that is so powerful is unspeakable no matter the conditions around us witnessed by Paul and Silas praising God after being beaten and thrown into the darkest, innermost prison. So, if nothing else, be thankful and joyful this Thanksgiving because of the hope you have that will never disappoint you.

We were so blessed to have Pastor Barry Boucher share at the conference and thank God for his recovery after surgery. Also we had leaders from Czech Republic (Jarda and Rut Kupka) and from Amsterdam (David & Caroline Warnink) who lead IAMCS congregations there. It was the Warninks first time in Ukraine and I can say that they loved what they experienced with the Ukrainian Messianic believers. Last but not least, we so enjoyed our visitors and new friends from Shreveport, LA. They were a team of five led by Pastor Timothy Carscadden. They had a blast and joined in on dancing and praising the Lord in a new way.

A call to England: We have been sensing a call to journey to England to be with a Messianic congregation there that just joined the IAMCS. It's interesting that at a popular English bookstore in Paris we met a group of Macedonians. I reminded them of Paul's Macedonian call which they were familiar with. This was further evidence to me to act on this call to England, so I will spend three days in London from December 2-4 encouraging a Messianic congregation there and possibly speaking in a receptive church. Please pray for my travels to and from London and for inspiration as to what exactly the Lord wants spoken there. I am sensing a similar call for Leslye and I to travel to Spain and Italy this spring to connect with Messianic believers and perhaps to hold small conferences to encourage the Messianic movement there.

Challenges ahead: Our children are all facing challenges involving either health, finances, business decisions and other personal issues. Please pray for them when you think of us. We are also going through a transition with our finances due to the recession, the illness of a key donor and the scheduled ending of a foundation in 2012 whose annual gift formed a large portion of our support. We see some interesting developments in this area from sources that we did not expect (we love that). Please pray for our financial needs and consider in this season an end of the year gift and monthly support no matter how small or big that might be. There is information below on how you can help us to do what the Lord wants us to do here in Europe.

It was November 7, 2011 and the bedraggled band of about 70 communists celebrated the revolution, surrounded by an equal number of policeman, probably marching somewhere, singing about the glory of their former days and hoping for the return of a new Stalin and Lenin to lead them on. So many have died here at the hands of the old regime and yet there are those who long for the good old days. We had a wonderful Erev Rosh Hashanah with Messianic Rabbi Emmanuel Rodriguez and the Messianic Center in Paris which is an IAMCS congregation. It seems that Sephardic Jews have a seder on Rosh Hashanah which I have no experience of being raised Ashkenazi. It was a great time of fellowship and celebration. The latest front in the Arab/Israeli conflict is in the New York City subways. This is similar to the skirmish in the Seattle bus system where anti-Israel ads were pulled before they went up due to public outrage. But who can resist the smiley faces in NY. And are these kids being taught anti-Semitism in Palestinian schools funded by EU coffers. Will these kids help fire thousands of rockets into Israel with little international outcry? Will they try to sail into Gaza with arms while being protected by Turkey's navy (or so they say)? Will they enter Israeli homes at night and slaughter innocent families including sleeping children. All of this is possible because they are being taught to hate the Jew, to drive them into the sea and those who kill the Jew will be rewarded in the afterlife. They are taught that israel has no right to exist and that it was created because of a Jewish fabricated story of the Holocaust. The Jew is dehumanized and demonized in their eyes making all action taken against them justified. This week a Palestinian leader said the new Palestinian state should be Jewish-free. Sound familiar? And what's up with Palestinian leaders insisting on pre-1967 now borders when after countless wars and lost lives and treasure they could have had the same in 1948 had they accepted the two state proposals offfered by world leaders. Come on MTA and the NYC subways! These ads are patently offensive and have no place in the Metro. They are in effect "fighting words" which are not protected by the First amendment. You could not put an ad in the Metro that 9/11 was actually a CIA plot. This is bound to lead to violence and responsibility will fall on the government. And the lawyers will follow. Public prayer in the streets banned in Paris/Muslim Imam fears anarchy

The Ministry of the Interior of France has banned public prayer in the streets of Paris which immediately affects 1,000 Muslims who meet at one site for prayer every Friday at 2pm. The ban may be extended to all of France including Marseille and Nice. The Minister also said that force would be used to stop such public prayers because it breaches the French understanding of separation of church and state and shocks citizens who are not Muslims. In the public arena the French expect secularism to control. The Muslims have been meeting for Friday prayers in the street for several since a large mosque closed and the local police did nothing to restrict the practice. I am told that the police will not go into areas of Paris because of fear of Muslim and gang violence against them. One resident said that she would have to call for fire department to come when she needed the police because of the lack of police response in her neighborhood. One Imam commented that there were difficulties in moving to a new place provided by the city and that Muslims were "not cattle." He also said he "fear(ed) a climate of anarchy." Addressing recent developments in the region, the Egyptian government press recently published articles employing antisemitic motifs. One of the articles attributed the recent uprisings in the Arab states to a Jewish plot for world domination, as described in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Another article, written in the wake of the August 18, 2011 attacks on the Egyptian-Israeli border, called not to sign any agreements with the Jews, characterizing them as "the descendants of apes and pigs" who cannot be trusted."

Dear Friends of the Schneiers,

We have had an awesome Spring in Europe and it's time for an update as to all the Lord has done since we last wrote. The most memorable moments since mid-Winter were two Messianic gatherings in Odessa, Ukraine and Amsterdam, our time with a Jewish, atheist American playwright in Paris, sharing at a Passover gathering with Chuck Pierce in Denton, Texas and a "France on Fire" gathering in the Cevenne region of France. Each had its own significance and we'd like to share with you these times and places, let you know our summer schedule which has been revised and lay out some urgent and significant needs we are experiencing right now.

First, we held our semi-annual leadership gathering in Odessa, Ukraine at the end of March followed by a trip to Auschwitz. What was immediately significant was that a team of 14 came from Rabbi Eric Walker's congregation in Birmingham including Eric and his wife, Lora. Also joining in was Rabbi Joel Liberman and three of his congregants from San Diego, CA. Rounding out the list of International participants were Jarda and Rut Kupka, leaders of the IAMCS congregation in Prague and Messianic Italian leader, Giovanni Melchionda whose congregation in Ancona, Italy has applied for membership in the IAMCS. Two other congregations have also applied for IAMCS congregational membership including one from Western Ukraine from the city of Uzgorod and one from London, England. When these congregations have been accepted for membership we will have grown from five European congregations in 2007 when David became the European Representative for the IAMCS to twenty-five. Please pray as we seek the Lord's will to venture out into Spain and Germany perhaps in the fall of 2011.

We had 15 Ukrainian congregations attend our leadership conference. This is the first time since when our Odessa congregation was planted in 1995 that large team came from the US to labor with us in the Ukrainian Messianic revival. Over the three day retreat, approximately 200 attended. We were so blessed with the words brought by Rabbis Eric Walker and Joel Liberman and Messianic leaders Giovanni Melchionda and Jarda and Rut Kupka. Part of Odessa conference included men's and women's breakout sessions led by Rabbis David and Eric and Rebbetzin Lora and Leslye. It was the first time in four years that Leslye was back in Ukraine and everyone in the Odessa congregation, as well as many from throughout Ukraine, were so glad to see her and catch up on what the Lord has been doing in their lives. The times of worship and praise were so joyful and everywhere you could see unity, friendship and service. Our leadership gatherings usually occur in late October and late March (before or after Jewish holidays) and if you would like to participate, please let us know.

My (David's) focus was on what it meant to be a citizen in the Kingdom of God and how that translated into being an involved and fruitful citizen wherever we are from. I used as a text and recent biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer entitled "Bonhoeffer" by Eric Metaxes. It was clear in the book that Bonhoeffer came to the conclusion that the Body of Messiah had a duty to call the State into account if it was violating its duty to protect its citizens. Along side of this conclusion was his understanding that the life of the true believer is one of "seeing and doing." Our life in Messiah was to be active not theoretical, requiring one to see what the Lord was directing us to do and simply doing it without regard to fear or personal loss. His words remind us of what Yeshua said in Matthew 10 that we should "go," "preach," "heal" "raise" and "cast out."

Bonhoeffer paid the ultimate price by opposing Hitler and his Nazi regime. He was forbidden to teach, be a pastor to the fledgling German Church not under Hitler's control, to write, and finally he was imprisoned, tortured and hung just before the end of WWII. He risked his life of privilege because he was certain that the body of Messiah's duty was to protect the Jewish people. He wrote that a church that did not protect the Jews was not part of the Body of Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah. I strongly recommend reading this lengthy work to refresh your understanding of what it means to be an active and committed citizen of the kingdom of God. One man's actions can change the course of history and that could involve any one of us. Here's what he said about passivity in the face of evil: "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act."

Following the conference we had a banquet for survivors of the Holocaust. In Odessa. There is now the makings of a 2nd congregation of survivors, their children and grand children. It was so touching to sit, eat, sing, dance and share with the survivors over several hours at the banquet. I told those who came from the US not to ask questions about the survivors experiences but to let them volunteer their stories. One survivor blurted out that he was the sole survivor of the burning of over 20,000 Jewish people in wooden barns in Odessa after the Nazis occupied the city. Needles to say that broke the ice and many other conversations occurred during our precious time together.

The US and European team also had a chance to visit two of the six orphanages we serve in Odessa. We were shown what they can accomplish with the little they have and how grateful they were of our support through the financial contributions from a US based foundation connected to Messianic Rabbi Walter Leiber. For example, they showed us a new pump that we purchased for them that now keeps the orphanage warm since it uses much less electricity to operate. New windows also keep out the cold from notoriously drafty Ukrainian orphanages. We work hand in hand with the orphanages to identify what are the most critical needs and plan the budgets so that these needs can be met. In the orphanage for children who have hearing problems, we have secured computer equipment that can help those who have some degree of hearing. The list goes on and on of the miracle provision of aid and mercy from the God of Israel to the "the least of these." Would you like to be a partner in these children's lives in Ukraine?

European Unity in Amsterdam: In late May we held our 2nd IAMCS European conference in Amsterdam which drew about 150 participants. Messianic Rabbis Jeff Forman and David Chernoff came from the US to share and Joel Chernoff led the worship and praise. Last year Messianic Rabbi Joel Liberman spoke about Yeshua as God and this year I emphasized Him also being fully man who brought a Jewish Gospel. We are planning for a much larger conference in late May or early June of 2012 and all are invited. This year we were blessed to have Messianic leader Lorenzo Greco from Belgium share on Yeshua in the Old Testament. The team from the Netherlands under the banner of the Menorah Foundation gained some valuable experience for future gatherings in Europe.

Passover in Texas: I, David, was invited by Chuck Pierce to share my testimony at the Passover gathering at Glory of Zion. Thousands of believers were present and thousands more joined in from all over the world via the internet. The general theme was passing over into your inheritance. I was able to share to the mostly non-Jewish audience the thought that the Body of Messiah could not enter into its full inheritance without the Messianic Jewish movement. I also explained that the time for the marginalizing of Messianic Jews in God's plan for worldwide revival was over. All of the comments we heard after I shared were so encouraging because many had never heard from a Jewish believer before. The vehicle for my thoughts was what I called a "Tri-Generational Testimony" which incorporated the lives of my grand parents and parents as well as my own life as a Jew and then as a Messianic Jew. We were also encouraged that Chuck opened this ministry opportunity to us because it showed his commitment to the Jewish people and Israel and to the Messianic Jewish movement.

Revival in France: Right after the conference in Amsterdam, Leslye and I traveled to the south of France in the Cevenne region to be part of a prophetic gathering of believers mostly from France. We often hear people say how "dark" France is spiritually but that was not the case amongst the believers in the packed hall in St. Jean-du-Gard. To get there we had to take a plane, two trains and then a taxi because the bus was canceled. The worship and teaching were so filled with the Spirit and the unity was so pleasant, Keep praying for revival in France. Next May, 2012 the presidential voting will begin. President Sarkozy has been very supportive of Israel but he may be replaced by a Socialist contender who won't. All of you know the story of Dominque Strauss-kahn who was arrested for allegedly raping a hotel maid in NYC. He is Jewish, a Socialist and he was the prime contender poised to defeat President Sarkozy. His being Jewish is no guarantee that he would be equally supportive of Israel because of the track record of the French Socialist party. Please also pray for the upcoming elections in France which is a key country in Europe.

"Lord, send me Jewish people!": Finally, you may remember my prayer for the Lord to send us Jewish people to share with. In Paris, we attended a play reading by an American playwright who is also a Nobel prize wining chemist. After the play he shared his life story including that he was a survivor of the Holocaust. He proudly proclaimed also that he was an atheist. Leslye and I spoke with him about our work with survivors in Ukraine who have told us that they knew God had worked miracles so they could survive. I followed up on our initial meeting with an e-mail and so the slow process of befriending this Jewish man. Please pray for the Lord to open his heart because it is only the Spirit that draws men. It is the goodness of God that leads men to repentance.

OUR URGENT NEEDS

There are several urgent needs we are experiencing right now that require prayer and some action on your part if possible:

1, We wrote you about our daughter's, Rachel's, health struggles with extremely low blood pressure bouts. She experienced some time of relief but she continues to have to deal with this condition that causes extreme dizziness. These physical attacks interfere with or at times prevent her from leading her normally productive life as a wife, mom and home school teacher of two of her children. Please pray for a total healing of this condition.

2. We have been struggling with replacing our health insurance which ended on June 1st. I have enrolled Leslye in an new plan. Please pray for this process for me as the replacement insurance for both of us will cost at least $1,400/month or $16,800 per year. My application for the high priced replacement insurance was just approved.

3. Our 1991 vehicle died on the way to visit Leslye's Mom in Atlanta. We were exiting I-75 to I-575, entering traffic from the left lane, when the transmission gave out. Thank God the lower gear still worked and we were not stranded on the shoulder or in one of the fast moving lanes of the interstate. We stayed in the Atlanta area with Leslye's Mom until we found a car we could buy which we did after a three day search. We put down $2,000 for a Ford crossover van so we could afford the monthly payments. We do a lot of traveling while we are in the US and this will be our primary mode of transportation. If you could help in anyway to defray the cost of the down payment of $2,000 or the loan of about $14,000 it would be much appreciated. The need to cover the down payment is immediate and a monthly donation for the balance of the loan and increased insurance is about $300/month. Information as to gifts to our ministry appears below.

Anti-Semitism in Italy

It so interesting that Lefties in Italy (see article below from CFCA, www.antisemitism.org.il, 6/19/11) equate Zionism with Nazi fascism. Where were they when Stalin and Pol Pot killed millions of their citizens? Where is the left when the dictators of Africa, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Belarus, etc, etc brutalize their people. Selective liberation and appeasement politics doesn't cut it when you're dealing with criminal thugs in the real fascist world in which Israel has no part.

Let's face it: Equating Zioinism (which is promoted by the God of Israel who BTW created the universe) with the Nazis is an act of anti-Semitism on an Orwellion level. "War is Peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength" is the same as "Zionism is Nazi Fascism."

Anti-Circumcision comic book offends with 'grotesque' antisemitic imagery

San Francisco - San Francisco's anti-circumcision measure will be decided by voters in November, but the literature for the movement aims to sway them with some disturbing images -- including dark, evil-looking rabbis and a blonde superhero saving babies from their clutches.

The measure, supported by self-described "intactivists," would make circumcision performed on anyone under 18 a misdemeanor, even if it is done for religious purposes.

It would be punishable by a $1000 fine, or up to a year in jail.

But that's not the half of it: check out the eye-opening "Foreskin Man,'' the comic book for this anti-circumcision movement that uses images critics are calling blatantly antisemitic.

The star cover image of his comic book shows a dark, bearded rabbi looming over a naked baby laying on a pool table, as a superheo appears ready to save the child.

Saunders asked Hess if his comic is antisemitic. His answer: "A lot of people have said that, but we're not trying to be antisemitic. We're trying to be pro-human rights."

Those San Franciscans may not be the only ones voting on whether or not to make circumcision illegal for minors.

The New York Times reports "intactivists" are fighting for a similar ballot issue in Santa Monica, arguing that the procedure is "male genital mutilation."

"This is the furthest we've gotten, and it is a huge step for us," Matthew Hess, who wrote both bills, tells the newspaper, adding that folks in other cities have been calling for help, as well. "This is a conversation we are long overdue to have in this country. The end goal for us is making cutting boys' foreskin a federal crime."

The ballot measures are of concern to Jewish groups, according to The Times, as circumcision is a requirement of Jewish law.

"People are shocked that it has reached this level because there has never been this kind of a direct assault on a Jewish practice here," Marc Stern, associate general counsel for the American Jewish Committee, tells the newspaper. "This is something that American Jews have always taken for granted -- that something that was so contested elsewhere but here, we're safe and we're secure."

Jena Troutman, however, a mom of two boys who is promoting the Santa Monica measure........ tells The Times it's not about religion.

"I am just a mom trying to save the little babies," she tells the newspaper. "I'd rather be on the beach, but nobody is talking about this, so I have to."

Circumcision procedures have been dropping in the United States, The Times reports, with 30 to 50 percent of infant males getting snipped.

Family physician Dr. David Baron tells the newspaper trying to ban circumcision is "ridiculous and dishonest."

"To say it is mutilation is wrong from the get-go," Baron tells The Times. "It is a perfectly valid decision to say that it is not what you want for your child. Any doctor who says it is needed is not being honest, but to say that it needs to be banned is shocking."

How Europe Lost Faith in Its Own Civilization

Beset by Christian guilt, the Continent won't defend Christians By FRITS BOLKESTEIN

This year the leaders of France and Britain declared that their countries' policies of multiculturalism had failed. As when Germany's Angela Merkel made similar statements last year, Nicolas Sarkozy and David Cameron sparked a political firestorm.
Europe's debate over multiculturalism, and how to deal with non-European immigrants, will only intensify as the full effects of the Arab Spring play out on our continent. But it's worth stepping back to consider how we arrived at this point—how it became so controversial for a Western leader to affirm a preference for his own culture. In short, how did Europe lose confidence in its own civilization?
In their modern forms, the noble Western traditions of self-assessment and self-criticism have often degraded into sentimental self-flagellation. Consider Africa, whose underdevelopment many people blame on the West. This guilt over Africa's poverty is a sentiment that underlies Western development aid. But the question to ask is not, "Why are poor countries poor?" The right question is, "Why are wealthy countries wealthy?" In the beginning we were all poor.
Whoever wants to study the rise of the West and the roots of our prosperity should go back to the Renaissance, if not to classical antiquity. Colonizing Africa had nothing to do with it; the interior of most of Africa was inaccessible until late in the 19th century. European colonizers also came late to North Africa and the Middle East, which for many centuries was ruled by the Ottomans. Europe is no more responsible for the underdevelopment of Africa than Rome was for the underdevelopment of Gaul.
Many people also hold great sympathy with the Palestinian people. That is understandable because their situation is indeed pitiful. But who bothers about the lot of Christians in the Middle East? Their situation is at least equally pitiful as that of Palestinians, if not more so.
At least 10% of Egypt's population is Christian (Coptic). They are repressed and frequently live in misery. The Christian minorities in Syria, Iraq and Pakistan are also discriminated against. In Somalia, Islamists hunt down anyone in possession of a Bible. Yet no one in Europe seems to get excited about these crimes. Christianity appears to be a spent force in Europe, with the exceptions of Poland and Ireland. But for Christians in Asia, Africa, Arabia and beyond, it is not the anemic religion that it has become here. Third World Christians rightly feel deserted.
If they have any doubt about the importance of Christianity in contemporary Western life, these non-European Christians need only look to locales such as England's Oxford. There, in a land with an established Christian church, the municipality has decided to replace Christmas with a "Winter Light Festival." According to a spokesman, this ensures that equal attention is paid to all religions.
Europeans weren't always so self-hating. The 19th century saw the high tide of imperialism, and Europe was brimming with self-confidence. What has happened? The past century witnessed the cataclysm of World War I, the rise of collectivist dictatorships during the interbellum, World War II and the Holocaust, Stalinism and the societal chaos of 1968. These events eroded our cultural certainties and ushered in the era of multiculturalism, which enjoins us "not to judge" that which is different.

The other foundation of our current masochism is, ironically, the very Christianity that modern generations have been so eager to cast off. Whether we like it or not, our civilization remains deeply marked by Christianity. Consider the Gospel of Saint Matthew, which states that "whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted" (23:12). Friedrich Nietzsche characterized this as "slave morality." But one does not have to go that far to realize that this saying, along with instructions to "turn the other cheek" and "go the extra mile," do not exactly prod people to stick up for their own.

If Islamic civilization may be described as a shame culture, Christianity is a guilt culture. Listen to Bach's "Passion According to Saint Matthew." The chorus—that is to say the people—sings, "I shall be punished for what you [Christ] have suffered," and, "You are no sinner, like we and our children." Pride joined guilt and we in Europe soon came to believe that the mote in our eye was heavier than the beam abroad.
This would not be a problem if the burden of a bad conscience came with atonement, forgiveness, confession, expiation or any of the other theological or liturgical forms for purging guilt from the sinner. Formerly, Catholicism and Lutheranism provided for the atonement of guilt. But these traditions no longer have credibility in Europe. Feelings of guilt are not sublimated. This also goes for Calvinism, which in its purest form knows no remission of guilt in this life. Its effects have been deep in Europe and outlast the doctrine.
Thus in 1996 the Dutch government declared that its "debate about multiculturalism must be conducted on the principle that cultures are of equal merit." And so it has gone, for years. In 2002 right-wing politician Pim Fortuyn was assassinated during national elections, three months after he had called to remove an anti-discrimination clause from the Dutch constitution.
The day after his murder, the editor in chief of the NRC-Handelsblad, a leading Dutch newspaper, wrote that "The pride of the Netherlands is precisely that we do not find one culture better than the other." The writer apparently did not realize that his pride exalted Dutch culture over others—supposedly against national values.
And in 2009, when Utrecht University theologian Pieter van der Horst wanted to devote his valedictory address to "the Islamization of European Anti-Semitism," the institution forbade it, letting its fear of Islamic displeasure take precedence over another ostensibly protected right in Holland: free speech.
The effects of Christian guilt and European self-hatred can be seen around the world, having been picked up by other cultures and used against Europe. After World War II the West set up the United Nations, in part to weaken its own hegemony. Within 30 years the U.N. had grown an automatic majority bent on castigating the West and Israel. The U.N. Human Rights Council, based in Geneva, elected Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi to join its ranks and judge the state of others' civil liberties.
For 13 years the U.N.'s Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) was led by Senegalese teacher Amadou-Mohtar M'Bow, a Soviet-backed, virulent anti-Westerner who ran the organization as if it were an African village and he its tribal leader. In 1984 the U.S. pulled out of Unesco, and in 1985 the U.K. and Singapore followed suit. Continental Europe's nations remained and let themselves be duly castigated.
So much the better that a handful of European leaders now are attempting to reverse our slow cultural suicide. If Europe can retake pride in its own classical values, it and the world will be better off.

Just got back to Paris from Passover in Denton, Texas with Chuck Pierce and all the folks at Glory of Zion. They had thousands attend and many thousands on the internet. Poll shows widespread antipathy for Israel in Europe

A German think tank on Tuesday released a report aimed to study the increasing levels of anti-Semitism in a range of selected countries across Europe. On the question "Israel is conducting a war of extermination against the Palestinians," 47.7 percent of the German respondents agreed, while 63.3 percent of the Poles said that Israel is seeking to obliterate the Palestinians. On the question, "I can understand why people do not like Jews," 35.6 percent of the German respondents answered in the affirmative, followed by 35.9 percent for Britain, 41.1 percent for the Netherlands and 55.2 percent for Poland. According to Dr Clemens Heni, a German scholar who has studied the phenomenon of secondary anti-Semitism, "the new anti-Semitism is spread not just by neo-Nazis, but also by mainstream left-wing members of parliament, left-wing activists, extremist Muslims and the European elites."

Looks like I am 61 and French!

We celebrated my 61st birthday in NYC on February 22nd and my grandson gave me a card that said, "Well it looks like you're 61." He's on his way to being at least a comedian. And just today I received documentation of my birth to my French mother which means that I am officially French now as well! What a year of surprises and new possibilities. We are in Paris preparing for a powerful leadership conference in Odessa, Ukraine from March 29th-31st. For the first time since the Hear O Israel outreach of 1995, a sizeable American Messianic Jewish team from the US (California and Alabama) are coming to Odessa to bless and serve Messianic congregations from throughout Ukraine. Included in its ranks are Messianic Rabbi Eric Walker and his wife, Lora, and Messianic Rabbi Joel Liberman. On my way to Odessa, I will be stopping for a few days in Prague to spend time with our IAMCS congregation's leaders, Jarda & Rut Kupka, and share at their congregation on March 26th.

Also we are hosting at the Odessa conference Messianic leaders from Italy and Jarda and Rut from the Czech Republic, and Leslye is returning for the first time since we moved to France. We will spend three days with about 250 Messianic believers (including many from the 16 Ukrainian IAMCS congregations) and then visit two of the six orphanages we work with. On April 1st, which is "Humorina" day in Odessa, we will hold a banquet for at least 30 of the Holocaust Survivors we care for. Miraculously, a Messianic Jewish congregation of survivors, their children and grand children has grown out of our 15 year ministry to these precious Jewish people.

On our return to Paris, we will make a short stopover in Poland to visit Auschwitz and Schindler's factory. This is our first visit to a Nazi death camp and war factory and we expect the Lord to speak to us there. Please pray for the travel of the American teams, the leaders from Europe and Leslye and I and all of the details of the retreat and ministry in Odessa.

All we can say now as to our work in Europe is HARVEST, GENERATIONS CONNECTING, DIVINE JUSTICE, INGATHERING AND FAVOR! These words which we have been hearing from many as to 2011 we are already experiencing in Eastern and Western Europe in wonderful new ways.

We have been working with Holocaust survivors for 16 years in Odessa, Ukraine, feeding and clothing them, providing medical aid, helping them with finances for surgery, burial and basic food needs and praying for them. From time to time, they have asked about what we believe and have received Yeshua as Messiah. We regularly celebrated the biblical festivals with them at a banquet with worship, dance and fellowship. Some attend our main congregation regularly and their leader recently gave David a medal as a token of appreciation of our long term efforts with aging members of the Holocaust society. Here's a photo of them celebrating Passover with our leaders.

Out of these efforts, so many holocaust survivors have come to faith they have become a whole new congregation! They have been inviting their children and grand children, and the group of fifty is growing! This is a harvest of a miraculous kind ushering in divine justice on a new level. "They worship the Lord. They have joy and they are dancing," said Sasha who leads the Odessa Messianic congregation we established in 1995. Imagine a Messianic congregation of Holocaust survivors, their children and grand children! Generations preserved by the tri-generational God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Over one million Jews were murdered in Ukraine during the Holocaust. What a testimony to God's divine justice to have the survivors gather now under the arms of the Jewish Messiah and pass on their newly found life and purpose in Yeshua to the next generations. In Proverbs 6:31, the thief has to repay seven fold what he has stolen. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is making the devil repay by bringing the gospel to the Jewish Holocaust remnant and connecting them to the succeeding generations.

In late March, 2011, we will be hosting a Holocaust survivors banquet following a three day leadership retreat in Odessa. This retreat is a fulfillment of 15 years of prayer as a new ingathering is forming. For the first time believers from the Messianic movement in the US and Western Europe are joining together with their counterparts in Eastern Europe to encourage an outpouring of the Spirit visibly seen in the worship, relationships and servants' hearts there. We have just heard that about 20 Messianic believers from Alabama and California are traveling at their own expense to raise up the arms of the humble and effective Messianic movement in Ukraine. We will have time also to directly interact with survivors and orphans at two of the six orphanages we serve in Odessa. We will be returning to Paris by way of Poland including a visit to Auschwitz and Schindler's facory.

Finally, we are experiencing favor unlike we have ever seen as a result of the Biblical approach we take as to blessing the Jewish people and not being ashamed of the Gospel...."to the Jew first." Messianic Rabbi Victor Vilensky, who has started 8 Messianic congregations in Crimea and who oversees 4 other messianic groups in Ukraine, has partnered with a Charismatic union of churches to lead times of repentance at synagogues for the murder of 1 million Jews in Ukraine during the Holocaust. Recently, in western Ukraine, Victor received permission from the local Jewish committee and rabbi to conduct such a service and it deeply impacted the remaining Jews in that area. Interestingly Victor also found a burial place for a member of David's family which I hope to visit in the future. Victor always lets the Jewish people he works with know that he is a Jewish believer in Yeshua and Messianic Jewish rabbi. Yet he has favor wherever he ministers. Victor, a medical doctor, also founded and leads a rehab center in Crimea where many young Jewish addicts have been transformed to the point where they also lead Messianic works there.

As to western Europe, we are preparing for a second IAMCS Messianic conference in Amsterdam during the last weekend in May. This will be a time for training, worship and fellowship. Please pray for the local Dutch leaders who are handling most of the planning of this event. We hope to draw Messianic believers from many western European so we can promote greater unity in this key area of the world. With anti-Semitism growing daily in Europe, our working together more effectively as a Messiasnic movement is an imperative that cannot be ignored. We also are partnering with a church in Paris to host a prophetic meeting with Chuck Pierce on June 4, 2011. Please be in prayer for all of these events as they have a strong spiritual impact on reaching the Jewish people in Europe at "such a time as this."

Seattle's version of anti-Semitism

In Seattle, metro buses will be covered with anti-Israel propaganda which of course we know is anti-Semitism with a new liberal costume. I suggest that believers start buying space on the buses showing the faces and statements of the most nefarious criminals in the Mideast who want to wipe out the Jewish people. Wake up America! USA - 'Israeli War Crimes' signs to go on Metro buses (Video)

"Israeli War Crimes," the enormous advertisement reads. "Your tax dollars at work."

To the right of the image is a group of children -- one little boy stares out at the viewer, the others gawk at a demolished building, all rebar and crumbled concrete.

It's an ad you'll be seeing soon on a handful of Metro buses in downtown Seattle.

A group calling itself the Seattle Mideast Awareness Campaign has paid King County $1,794 so that 12 buses will carry that message around town, starting two days after Christmas. That's December 27: the two-year anniversary of Israeli attacks on Gaza, aimed at stopping rocket attacks and weapons smuggling.

France - Posters on Paris walls promote antisemitic book on ‘Jewish mafia’ (Video)

The Paris City Hall has mobilized its employees to remove wall posters making publicity for an anti-Semitic book denouncing the "Jewish mafia”.

The move followed a complaint by the National Bureau of Vigilance Against Antisemitism (BNVCA), a body monitoring antisemitic incidents in France.

According to BNVCA president Samy Ghozlan, these posters are regularly placed on wall of Paris and its suburbs since November 12.

They represent three men standing upright with the mention "The Jewish mafia, the great international predators” and feature a new book by extreme-right and antisemitic author, Herve Ruyssen.

On these posters one could also read: " Racket, weapons trafficking, murder under contract, drug trafficking, money laudering, casinos and discotheques, pornography, diamond trafficking, slave trade, Third world plundering, artworks trafficking, swindle."

The Paris City Hall said it mobilized a unit able to intervene 24 hours a day. To date 38 actions were initiated to remove the posters.

Dutch-funded church NGO supports radical Palestinian siteThe Dutch aid organization Interchurch Organization for Development Cooperation, which is financed by the Dutch Government, has been financially supporting the anti-Semitic website Electronic Intifada, according to NGO Monitor. “Electronic Intifada is a leader in the demonization of Israel, including the BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanctions) campaign, and frequently compares the Israeli military to Nazis,” NGO Monitor claimed. The Dutch government provided ICCO with 124 million Euros in 2008, while 8.5 million Euros came from the European Union. When The Jerusalem Post confronted the Dutch Foreign Minister with the information, he responded: "I will look into the matter personally. My wife, Leslye, and I had three jam-packed days in Imola, Italy helping host a conference with an Italian Messianic alliance headed up by Giovanni Melchionda. We had 75 people attend from cities all around Italy and even from other countries in Europe. Leslye was a major part of the sharing at the conference and was very well received by all. Also Messianic Leader Lorenzo Greco took part in teaching at the conference. His congregation in Belgium is a member of the IAMCS (International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues).

This was our first IAMCS activity in Italy and I am sure we'll be going back to build on the relationships that have just begun there. We also visited Florence where we were able to see the synagogue that is home to 1,000 Jewish people. Even with that number, they do not have enough regular worshippers to have a minyan during the week. There are only about 28,000 Jews left in Italy. An 18-month-old boy has survived after falling seven floors from a Paris apartment and bouncing off a cafe awning and into the arms of a passerby. "My son saw a little boy on a balcony. He had gone right outside the railing... I said to myself I mustn't miss him," local doctor Philippe Bensignor, told AFP.

"I had time to move from side to side to get in the right position," the doctor said. "The little boy was fine. He cried a little bit but calmed down straight away."
The incident took place at the intersection of Cours de Vincennes and Rue des Pyrenees, in Paris's 20th arrondissement, on Monday.
It was a public holiday in France, and the awning ought to have been retracted.
"We were closed but the mechanical device for closing the awning wasn't working," said a barman at the cafe. "It's a real miracle."
An official investigating the incident said the boy and his three-year-old sister had been left alone in the apartment, in northern Paris, by their parents.
The pair, who had reportedly gone for a walk, were taken into custody.

Vatican Synod says NO to Israel!

So some Bishops recently held a meeting at the Vatican on the Middle East and and they concluded that the Bible does not support the return of the Jewish people to Israel nor that the Jews are God's chosen people. It is reported that Archbishop Cyrille Salim Bustros stated that the original promises to the Jews by God were nulilfied by Christ, who the Archbishop perhaps does not know is also the Messiah to the Jewish people. So Yeshua, who is fully God, reversed the promises of God violating the scripture that God does not lie, that in Him there is no shifting shadow and that he does not repent or reject His word.

Would someone tell them to read the Bible and stop preaching a different Gospel, a different Jesus (Yeshua) and a different Spirit. Even the UN got with some of the program in 1948 concerning Israel. And how about the verse from Romans 11 that God has not rejected the Jews and that the gifts and callings of God are irrevocable. Maybe the Bishops didn't trust those verses because a Jew wrote them.

Archbishop Bustros is also quoted as saying, " We Christians cannot speak about the promised land for the Jewish people. There is no longer a chosen people.,, The justification of Israel's occupation of the land of Palestine cannot be based on sacred scriptures." What is the Archbishop calling sacred scriptures? Not the word of God that is accepted by Christians and Messianic Jews. It's a different Gospel and it needs to be exposed and treated as such. We call on all Christians to publicly reject these statements and to petition the Vatican to publicly separate itself from these anti-Semitic and unbiblical statements that represent the heart of replacement theology. Israeli web site reports anti-Semitic act against Messianic Jewish congregation

Amazingly an Israeli web site (CFCA) dealing with anti-Semitism worldwide (whose logo appears above) published a story on the defacing of a sign of a Messianic Jewish congregation with a backwards swastika. Day 3 of IAMCS conference in Amsterdam

Today was our third and last day for the IAMCS conference in Amsterdam. We had about 50 people attend a leadership meeting to discuss what they had experienced at the conference and what were next steps they would like to see for western Europe. The team from the Netherlands did such a great job in organizing the conference. Everyone at the meeting said they would like to have another gathering next May. A few congregational leaders from the Netherlands and Italy want to move forward with IAMCS membership. There was a strong sense of unity and hope. Blessings. David Schneier

So we went from 10 am to 10pm today and I had a chance to share about the Testimony of Messianic Judaism along with Joel Liberman, Robert Solomon, Jeffrey Forman and David Chernoff. Joel Chernoff had an awesome concert and 202 people were registered and showed up for the conference. What a blast off for the Messianic movement in western Europe. Tomorrow at 10 am about 50 leaders will meet for more sharing and dialogue. One Dutch leader told me he had met others from the Messianic Jewish movement in the Netherlands that he had not fellowshipped with for years. About 200 people filled the hall in Amsterdam and more are expected tomorrow. We had guests from Italy, Czech Republic, France, England, Belgium, the Netherlands and the US. Many came in search for new direction in the Messianic movement. Others yearned for a firm foundation to build their faith on. Made it to Amsterdam!

Well, I made it to Amsterdam by train from Paris for the IAMCS European conference even though there was some type of rail strike . There is supposed to be a general strike in France next week and American Airlines, who we fly with to the US, may have a strike as well. British Air is having a cabin workers strike and it is the airline on which 5 Messianic leaders from the IAMCS are traveling here to share at the conference. Thank God they all made it but the first leg of their return flight has been canceled. I just received an e-mail that the father of a key Messianic leader from Belgium is near death in Italy so this leader cannot come. The local team in Amsterdam has received many spiritual attacks as we seek to unite the body of Messiah in Europe and to have them focus on reaching the Jewish people and building healthy messianic congregations here. And in a Warsaw airport gift store Jewish figures wearing kippas with big noses and carrying bags of money are on sale for those who need an anti-Semitic boost. The web-site www.antisemitism.org.il writes. "Gift shop at the Warsaw airport sells figurines of Jews with a big nose, yarmulke and bags of money, in different positions. In each bag they entered a real Zloty. The company manufactures the figurines defined it as JYD Miniaturais" World's apart with the same hatred. Does this seem like a fair image to you? More like the posters from pre-war Nazi Germany which demonized the Jews in an artistic sort of way. Clever propagandists who have no regard for the truth. We're used to it since we have been accused of everything evil since the death of Yeshua. But the God of Israel is our defense even in the face of such farcical representations of us as a people. Don't be deceived. This is Jewish hatred, plain and simple, now thinly disguised as anti-Israelism. The Nazi propagandist, Joseph Goebbels, would be proud of this modern portrayal of the Jews as murders of the innocent. Yeshua lifted up in Geneva, Switzerland

We just spent the weekend in Geneva and had the opportunity to spend time with a growing Messianic fellowship there. They met on the 3rd floor of a Christian bookstore in downtown Geneva on Shabbat morning. Their leader, Marc Blancou, shared his thoughts about the weekly Torah portion read in synagogues throughout the world. Great location with a window decorated with Messianic books, materials and items. About 35 people joined together to pour over the word of God.

They also had an Havdalah meeting on Saturday night to close out the Sabbath. I was able to share at both meetings and was received warmly by the believers there. Many in Switzerland were interested in a book I brought (in English and in French), "The Messianic Church Arising" by Robert Heidler. We have had it translated in French and Russian. If you are interested in getting a copy just drop me a line and I can tell you where to order it. The Lord is raising up believers who truly want to love and care for Israel and the Jewish people. As our people remember the great victory in Israel by the Maccabees almost 22 centuries ago over their pagan Hellenistic rulers, let us specifically remember the courage of those Jewish fighters who trusted the God of Israel and refused to be conformed by fear to the popular culture, religion and ideology of their day. They chose death over conformity as they observed their faith in a climate of severe persecution. At some point a priestly family from a small village decided they could not endure such hostility against their desire to worship freely the God of Israel. They took up arms to defend themselves and against all eartly odds drove out their oppressors . My prayer is that the body of Messiah has such courage in 2010 to face the spread of anti-Semitism that is gripping the world inn new disguises and with new/old arguments of appeasement of those who would destroy Israel. On a lighter note here's a Hannukah photo we thought you might enjoy of a menorah from Odessa, Ukraine with a base of the Eiffel Tower!

This year the Lord has brought positive steps towards unity and encouragement of the Messianic movement in Europe. First, in Ukraine we had two leadership retreats with 240 leaders and congregants attending from 18 different cities. Another retreat is planned in Crimea in the Spring (April 14-16) and anyone who wants to come is invited. (just contact me by e-mail). Here are photos from the last conference in November in Odessa and reading the Torah at our congregational service after the retreat.

We also had opportunities to gather leaders from the Messianic movement and churches who support the Jewish people in Holland and Paris in May and to speak at congregations and churches in the Netherlands, Belgium and France.Our plans for Spring 2010 include making contacts with Messianic congregations and fellowships in Czech, Italy, Spain and Finland. Before we leave for the IAMCS (International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues) Rabbis conference in Orlando (Jan 3-6) we will be sharing in the Messianic congregation of Paris and a Filipino church that embraces Israel and the Jewish people. Through David's efforts as the IAMCS representative in Europe, 5 leaders from Europe were able to attend the MJAA's (Messianic Jewish Alliance of America) conference in the US to encourage them, their congregations and the movement in Europe.

One story about our building relationships with Jewish people here in Paris is worth noting because it is a fulfillment of our prayers that the Lord would bring us Jewish people to share Yeshua with. When you let the Lord take charge of your divine appointments things become very interesting. So it was Erev Yom Kippur and the Lord guided us to a large Sephardic synagogue in central Paris that had been built by Napoleon. I had to sit in the bleachers on the 3rd level because everyone had reserved the seats at 500 Euros each on the other floors below. I wound up seating next to a guy who had married and moved to France 20 years earlier. He was with his son who was to be bar mitzvah-ed the next week in this huge, ornate place. It seats about 2,500 people!

We began talking and then the service was interrupted because the Rabbi was conducting a fund raiser for the synagogue. My new friend was besides himself at this fund raiser during services and he said, "This is why Jesus became a Christian." He explained that the Jewish leaders in Jesus' time were always giving special places and perks to the rich so Jesus went to the poor and then became a Christian. I understood that the Lord had a place for me in this man's life. He then invited me to his son's bar mitzvah the next week. He e-mailed me during the week imploring me to come because he was divorced and he had no other relatives to stand with him during the bar mitzvah. It was a honor to be with him at this very difficult time in his life which normally is a great family celebration. It was also an honor to be in the center of the will of God. I am having lunch with him next Thursday and he has invited me to his Reform synagogue which is attended by some of the mostly influential Jewish people in the city. This is an answer to our prayers. "Lord, send us Jewish people to share your good news with and to build relationships with them that will bear fruit." We understand that the Jewish people are the apple of God's eye so His interest in their redemption is far greater than any plan we might have for them. Thank you Lord for arranging many circumstances like this already in Paris.

Before the Odessa retreat in mid-October, we had the privilege of helping to set up meetings for Chuck Pierce in Paris. Probably 300 people attended and Chuck had a very important word for France which can be read at http://www.gloryofzion.org/outmail/10-16-09_TripReportOnline.htm. There was a very strong move of God's spirit during the two meetings which fell at the end of Sukkot (Tabernacles). We also released the French version of Robert Heidler's very important book, "The Messianic Church Arising" which can be found in English at www.gloryofzion.org. Chuck will be sharing at two sessions at MJAA's Messiah Conference in 2010. Here are some photos from the Paris conference.

Thanks again for your faithful prayers and support this year. We expect next year to be the best yet as we strengthen those who can reach the Jewish people in Europe while we make individual contacts and establish relationships with Jewish people who do not know Yeshua as Messiah. Please pray for us for wisdom and understanding for our next steps in Europe including finding a new apartment because our landlord decided to rent it to another couple after our being here two years because he thought somehow that we wanted to leave. So the Arab-European League in Holland still doesn't believe that the Holocaust happened. It is like the Russian government refusing to acknowledge the deaths of perhaps seven million Ukrainian farmers in the early 1930's due to collectivization polices of Stalin. Millions died of starvation during two years of bumper harvests of wheat in Ukraine. A journalist from Holland who linked Jews to the recent outbreak of flu pandemics drew heavy criticism from a prominent Dutch Jewish organization, that claimed her words were tantamount to antisemitic blood libels.

Holland's largest daily, De Telegraf last week printed an interview with Désirée Röver, 61, who proposed the bird flu pandemic, caused by the virus H5N1, was part of an international conspiracy to reduce the world's population.

Röver is quoted as saying the conspiracy can be traced back to a group of descendants of the Khazars, a nation from the Caucasus believed to have converted to Judaism 1,200 years ago.

De Telegraaf quotes her as saying that these descendants are now "praying to another god; Lucifer, Satan, or however you want to call him" and "are called Rockefeller, Rothschild, Brezinski and Kissinger."

Ronny Naftaniel, who heads the Center for Information and Documentation on Israel (CIDI) - an local antisemitism watchdog, said that this is the first time he has heard such claims from Rover, and added that based on her words, "she does not seem to be right in her head."

Tales of Jews spreading disease "is nothing new and stories of Jews poisoning the water wells are known from many centuries ago and her words are giving rise to that antisemitism."

In response to Glen and Gary McCoys’s antisemitic, syndicated cartoon, The Flying McCoys, which appeared in Monday’s NY Daily News, Assemblyman Dov Hikind yesterday sent a letter to Daily News Publisher Mort Zuckerman “demanding a public apology from your newspaper for displaying this ugly cartoon.”

The Flying McCoys bills itself as a “delightfully absurd comic panel [which] takes superheroes, office humor, huggable animals and twisted relationships, blending them in a bizarre marriage of Gary Larson, The New Yorker, Conan O’Brien and Mad Magazine.”

Hikind, however, completely disagrees with this description. In his letter, Hikind wrote, “A father telling his son to, “Stand back, son. I think Rex has rabbis” with two men dressed in religious garb similar to how many Rabbis dress, including black hats, black coats, beards and side curls, standing on either side of a dog is not just demeaning, insulting and repulsive but surely smacks of antisemitism á la Goebbels."

Hikind, a child of Holocaust survivors continued, “The arrests last Thursday by the FBI of 44 individuals… [is] no excuse to slander the entire Jewish people. To imply that Rabbis have rabies and are therefore contagious is to indulge in the vilest type of character assassination.”

A Romanian mayor has been criticized by Jewish groups after appearing in a Nazi uniform at a local fashion show.

Costanza mayor Radu Mazare and his 15-year-old son were both dressed in the uniform.

Jewish human rights group the Simon Wiesenthal Centre has called on Mr. Mazare to admit he made a mistake, apologies and resign.

Mr. Mazare says his choice of costume was inspired by the 65th anniversary of the 1944 assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler.

He says the uniform was a German army one, not that of an SS officer.

Update on the "Barbarian" trial in Paris

The prosecutors have decided to retry 14 defendants because of the light sentences given to them in the murder trial of the Barbarian gang who tortured and killed Ilan Halimi in 2006. Murderers of Ilan Halimi Finally Found Guilty in Paris

The murderers of Ilan Halimi finally were held accountable in the Palace of Justice in Paris today, July 10th, for his torture and death some 3 years ago. These horrific crimes were committed by members of a Muslim gang called the Barbarians. The ring leader of the gang received a life sentence. His response was thumbs up. He said it had been better to live one day as a lion than 100 as a lamb. It took 26 co-conspirators to capture, torture and kill one Jewish man. Not much of a lion. During the trial he threw his shoes at witnesses who described the severity of the torture that caused Ilan's death. Others received long sentences but the parents want the prosecutors to appeal some of the sentences of the co-conspirators. Hope in Europe

We just spent 9 days with our friends and Messianic Rabbis, David Chernoff and Jeff Forman, from the IAMCS (International Alliance of Messianic Congregations and Synagogues/David is from Philadelphia and Jeff is from Toronto). We all serve on the Steering Committee of the IAMCS. My wife, leslye, and I have been called to Western Europe to encourage the development of a Messianic movement there after spending 12 years in Ukraine. We gathered Messianic and church leaders in Amsterdam and then in Paris to see what unity exists amongst these divergent groups and whether we as a group could consider sponsoring an all European Messianic conference in 2010, maybe in Paris. At both meetings we were asked to return for leadership conferences and helping to build a vision for what the Messianic movement could be in Europe. Hey everybody I am back from 2 weeks in Ukraine. We had 140+ leaders and members of Messianic congregations and churches who love the Jewish people gather in Nikolaiv for 3 days. We shared on the responsibility of believers, Jew and Gentile, to make a priority of their relationships to God and man as this is the key to understanding and living all that is contained in God's written and spoken word. There was a lot of time for fellowship and enjoying each other's presence. On the Road Again: Odessa, Ukraine

I am back in Odessa, Ukraine to visit with the Messianic congregation, Gateway to Zion, which we helped plant in 1995 and which we became leaders of in 1996. In the first photo, the congregation, led by Sasha, is worshipping the Lord and the middle photo is of the dedication of Elijah, our youngest "member. The last photo is of a wedding reception in McDonalds! My friend, Pastor Barry Boucher of Ottawa, and I are preparing for a leadership retreat in nearby Nikolaiv from May 6th to 8th and a time of sharing in the Messianic congregation there on the 9th. We expect 100 to 150 leaders and congregational members to attend. We should be back in Odessa on May 10th after sharing in a church led by a Jewish couple. We both return to Paris on the 12th and Barry leaves for Canada on the 13th. From May 19th to 29th we will host a team of 4 Messianic believers from the US and Canada including Messianic Rabbis David Chernoff and Jeff Forman. We will have meetings in Amsterdam on May 24th and Paris on May 27-28th to introduce our friends to Messianic leaders in Europe and to discuss the possibility of an all Europe Messianic conference in 2010 which Paul Wilbur has committed to be at. Constantine's Blunder

In 312 AD Constantine fought a battle to determine who would be emperor of the Roman Empire. Before the battle, in a French seaside town known as La Croix Valmer, Constantine prayed to Mithras, the sun god, for victory and he saw a vision of a flaming cross next to the sun and the words, "Conquer by this." Constantine was victorious and so he decided he was a Christian. He never stopped being a sun worshipper and his claim of Chrisitan faith is unsupportable. From this "revelation", the state and Christianity became one entity controlled by the Emperor. Three hundred years later the world was in the Dark Ages. For the Jews and Jewish believers in Yeshua, persecution was almost immediate as Constantine sought to rid all Jewish connections from Christianity. He also formalized the faith making home worship illegal. Now, to be legitimate, one had to have emperor style worship and liturgy in a basilica with professional clergy controlling religious experience and the Bible itself. We had a chance to visit La Croix Valmer this week. In front of their city hall there were two olive trees (photo above). Constantine separated the natural and wild olive trees but the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is reuniting them in this day. This is what we prayed in La Croix Valmer, that the Lord would undo what has been considered normal since 325 AD (the Council of Nicea drove Jewish believers out of the body of Messiah) and reunite Jews and Gentiles under the Jewish Messiah, Yeshua. Kristallnacht in Paris !:

To the left are photos of Kristallnacht in Germany in 1938 and a metro worker making repairs where hooligans broke the glass covering for an ad for the Paris Holocaust Museum's current exhibit "Nuit de Cristal." It is worse than ironic: "Kristallnacht" or "Night of the Broken Glass" marked the real beginning of the Holocaust!!

It was a night of horror in Germany as Nazis terrorized Jews and stormed through the streets breaking store windows, burning synagogues and rounding up 30,000 Jews to the concentration camps. One historian said "Kristallnacht came...and everything was changed." It marked a shift in persecution from political and social to physical, incarceration and murder.

Kristallnacht was Nov. 9-10, 1938, but the breaking of the glass over the remembrance of "Nuit de Cristal" in the Paris metro was just two weeks ago! It is indicative of the blatant anti-Semitism that prevails in Paris today.

The dumbing down of the print media

These two cartoons have caused a lot of controversy in the past weeks. The first one was highly objected to by the African American community because they felt the cartoonist was really depicting President Obama as the dead gorilla thereby bringing up the old racist stereotypes against African Americans and even promoting the President's assassination. Probably the cartoonist meant no such thing, but common sense should have dictated that this cartoon should not have been published by the NY Post. I support free speech but sometimes sechel (Yiddish for common sense) is a wiser path.

The 2nd cartoonist, Pat Oliphant, perhaps the most published cartoonist in the world, clearly meant to compare Israel to a jack booted, goose stepping, headless Nazi who was wheeling a piranna toothed Star of David in pursuit of Gaza depicted as a defenseless, small woman and child. No confusion as to his meaning - and it is anti-Semetic, anti-Israel, false, slanderous, unfactual (no one cares about that anymore when it comes to Israel) and without any merit. This is the exact type of cartoon used by the Nazi regime to distort the truth concerning the Jewish people so that the German population would be psychologically prepared for any outrages committed against the Jews.

Aren't thousands of rockets indiscriminately fired at Jewish civilians for years enough to warrant an outbreak of war against those who perpetrate such clear war crimes. And if you place your civilian population in danger by the way you fight and where you fight from, you are guilty of war crimes. The civilian deaths in Gaza should be laid at the feet of the leaders of Gaza. They should be tried for war crimes but all we hear are investigations of Israel's handling of the Gaza war. What would those who condemn Israel today have done if they were confronted with the real Nazi war machine? File genocide and war crime cases against the US and British forces when civilians died? Then, the world's survival was at stake. Today Israel's survival and survival of freedom in the world is at stake.

Yet, who has risen to defend Israel from these types of Nazi cartoonism similar to the outrage by African Americans to the NY Post cartoon? This is the time for Jews and Christians to speak out against virulent neo-Naziesque propaganda and send their protests to the newspapers that carried this cartoon and to demonstrate publicaly that they will not tolerate such baseless hatred. What if this cartoon were reversed and it was Gaza depicted as headless Mohammed firing rockets at defenseless Israelis? What would the reaction have been in the Muslim world? By the way, the old slander that the Jews control the media must not be valid given the wave of anti-Semetic articles and cartoons in newspapers and magazines these days.

Sunny skies, Anarchists and European style Communists

Yesterday thousands marched through the Place de Bastille of every labor and political persuasion, young and old out for a day in the Parisian sun. The T-shirt above was worn by a member of an anarchist group who strenuously distanced himself from the communists. He believed a very long strike was necessary to bring the government down, not a day strike under blue skies. I was struck by the many elderly people sporting communist banners and arm bands. I mentioned my years in Ukraine and what happened there under communism including the deliberate starvation or deportation of Ukrainian farmers causing the death of 7 million of them. But, that wasn't real communism they replied! Wishful thinking at best. It's so interesting to be in a country where people pay 40% of their income for taxes for social programs that pay them more than they were making if they lose their jobs, where the university costs about $900 a year, where there is full socialized medicine and where the people believe the government is not doing enough. So yesterday millions marched in France for more even though there is no more. I would not like to be an elected official here. At least when I was in the middle of the sea of marchers everyone was having a good time and there were no outbreaks of violence. Aux Barricades

The great rallying cry of the revolution of 1848 in France was "Aux barricades!" -- meaning workers should go out and block the streets against the government and its troops. Tomorrow is supposed to be another general strike of some sort in France to call on the government to help the workers. The photos show what it can look like in France. (Upper photo-Lionel Cironneau/The Associated Press, lower photo-BBC) I'll be out trying to get my own photos of this country stopping event.

According to Radio Netherlands Worldwide, "More than two million people are expected to take part in nationwide strikes in France on Thursday in protest against proposed cutbacks by President Nicolas Sarkozy. Trade unions and left-wing parties have urged workers to come out in large numbers in the second show of force against the government since January. Public services will be affected nationwide. The strikes will also disrupt commuter trains, intercity rail services and air traffic. International trains like the Thalys and Eurostar are planning to run as scheduled, although delays are not being ruled out. The strikes across 200 towns - which should last until Friday morning - come against a backdrop of mounting anger over job losses and factory closures."

Psalm 83:1-4 Do not keep silent, O God! Do not hold Your peace, and do not be still, O God! For behold, Your enemies make a tumult; and those who hate You have lifted up their head. They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, and consulted together against Your sheltered ones. They have said, "Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more."

That seems a clear message for those who seek to eliminate Israel from the world map: The plans of man will not go unnoticed in Heaven and "He that keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep."(Ps 121:4) In Europe few care if Israel is slandered for allegedly creating a modern Holocaust in Gaza or called a Nazi, apartheid state. Let's be clear: Israel was created to be Jewish homeland. It is home for 6 million+ Jews, and, therefore, anti-Israelism is also anti-Semitism. So why are students and faculties in Europe, Canada and the US turning against Israel while asserting that they are not anti-Semites - because it is easy for the confused liberal mind to separate the two (Israel and the Jews) when they are inseparable. But we who know better must clear a path through this world wide fog.

There is not one nation on earth that has had to put up with years of indiscriminate missile attacks and terrorism against its civilians which are war crimes and genocide, yet these acts carry little weight in the court of world opinion. Not one nation would show the restraint that Israel has shown and yet many university students and professors cannot see what is obvious. Therefore it is up to those who truly follow the God of Israel and those who know Yeshua as Messiah to stand up, proclaim the truth and take whatever is thrown against them in every arena of life. "Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."(Joshua 1:9)

The Sorbonne - the beat goes on

A block away perhaps a thousand riot police surrounded the main buildings of the Sorbonne. All the doors were shut and manned by the riot police with 23 students inside effectively keeping out thousands of others. I ran into a couple of sympathizers one bearing a Communist insignia on his sleeve and Lenin pins on his lapel. He explained to me that France was in a perpetual revolution since their Revolution of old, and that the communists had the answers for the people. Right! Another guy said that the will of the people was paramount but he couldn't explain what that was. I told him I had spent 12 years in Ukraine and was not impressed by the after effects of Communism. I mean, Stalin starved, worked to death or killed about 7 million Ukrainian farmers in the name of farm collectivism. The pictures above depict the enormity of the Sorbonne, protestors banners ("The Sorbonne is a political animal."), communist sleeve patches and riot police. Tonight, just blocks for our home, students took over some classrooms at the Sorbonne to protest against rising tuition costs and some new restrictions on professors. I asked one student how much tuition was per year and they told me 700 Euros or about $875. If this sum is accurate they don't have a clue what a deal they are getting. I just read that GW University (room, board and tuition) is running about $50,000 a year! Not sure what the French professors might be in for - maybe some rules about working.

In Ukraine, protests begin to grow in Kiev about the state of the economy or lack thereof. According to the "(a) sign held by .... an unemployed plumber camped out with other antigovernment demonstrators here in the past week, summed up the pervasive frustration: 'Get rid of them all,' it said. (He) did not hesitate to take that further. "There will be a revolt," he said. "And people will come because they are just fed up." A picture of a run on a local bank and the desecration of the grave marker of Rabbi Schneerson (who before he died lead the ultro-Orthodox Lubuvacher movement and who was considered the Messiah by his followers) is a grim reminder that anti-Semitism always rises in hard financial times in Europe. Old lies in Europe: "Holocaustianity" and anti-Capitalism

Holocaust denier, Bishop Richard Williamson, just kicked out of Brazil, arrived back in England, cheered on by his prominent supporter, Michele Renouf, who said on CNN that "Holocaustianity" has replaced Christianity. It seems that there are many proponents now of the idea that the Jews have fabricated the Holocaust for their own ends (specifically the creation of Israel) and have compelled the West to accept a new religion called Holocaustianity where no denial of it is the primary doctrine. What do you think of this new brand of rubbish and why do you think anyone could believe this? Google this term and see all of the proponents of this new attack against Israel and the Jewish people.

In France, we see the appearance of a new anti-capitialist party (same old communist party in a new suit) led by the 34 year old Olivier Besancenot. This party is gaining ground in France due to the world-wide financial collapse and threatens to take the normal French path of battle in the streets to re-establish an ongoing French revolution. I am sure they would love to restore the guillotine at Place de Concorde to weed out the worst offenders of the "will of the people," that French revolutionary model of the correct governmental policy. Moses, however, differs from this populist idea when he said not to follow after the majority. Mt. Sinai and the golden calf is a good example. It is so interesting to see revolutionaries seeming to know what the will of the people is even if the people don't want what they are supposed to need. Never mind the people's right to choose. The people's so-called collective will needs to be imposed even if they won't accept what is good and right for them. It's Orwell all over again: "War is Peace, Freedon is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength."

Here's what The Sunday Times (2/22/09-Matthew Campbell and Bojan Pancevski) had to say about trends in Europe and Besancourt.

"The French are known for a culture of protest but on this occasion the government has cause for concern. As the global financial crisis deepens, the flirtation with political extremes is intensifying to the extent that the most popular critic of President Nicolas Sarkozy is a firebrand Trotskyist committed to revolutionary upheaval.

Olivier Besancenot, the so-called “Red Postman”, is not only a hero to students demonstrating at the Sorbonne, birthplace of the student uprising in May 1968. The poll last week that described him as the “most effective” opponent of Sarkozy also showed that his approval rating had risen by 12 points to 23% since he founded the New Anti-capitalist party last month....

'Anti-capitalist views are spreading on the far right,' said Richard Stöss, a political scientist in Berlin who found that 82% of the right-wing extremists he questioned for a recent study said they were opposed to capitalism and globalisation.

In France the cherub-faced Besancenot is also changing his tune, not least by renaming his party whose old title, the Communist Revolutionary League, had been considered a turn-off for voters.

While he continues to advocate the overthrow of the government – through peaceful means, he insists – far-reaching nationalisation and the redistribution of wealth, he is also embracing environmental issues in the hope of broadening his appeal in time for European elections this summer."

So please keep up the prayer for France and Europe for a sound mind/common sense to be restored to their politics and for the lies against Isreal and the Jewish people to be confronted and vanquished.

Paris, Vichy Complicity, Bishops, Chavez and Ukraine

Lot's of things going on in Europe, but first some Paris views: Top photo - small cars and small garages, then torch lit protest by those who don't want the Euro or the EU, then typical parking, and finally Jesus and Freud action dolls in a children's store. Hard to figure out a common denominator here except that Paris is full of daily surprises. On the anti-Semitism front, the top French judicial body just ruled that the French Vichy government was responsible for the deportation of approximately 110,000 French Jews during WWII, most of whom died in concentration camps. The court known as the Council of State also ruled that no compensation was available for the deportees or their families as "the deportation had been 'compensated for' since 1945." Right! It did leave open the possibility of damages for a "daughter of a deportee as to her material and moral damages for her own personal suffering during and after the occupation." (Herald Tribune, Feb. 17, 2009, p. 8). Almost 60 years after the fact and they still haven't gotten this right yet.

Haven't heard if the Bishop, who was reinstated by the Pope even though he doesn't believe the Holocaust happened, has recanted. Anyone have an update? And Chavez it seems is dictator for life. Keep following the story of how the Jews of Venezuela are being blamed for having their synagogue defaced.

Finally my time in Odessa and Nikolaiv, Ukraine has been set for April 29th through May 12th. We are going to have an awesome leadership retreat with some real heroes of Eastern Europe - They are pioneers in one of the most significant moves of God in the world amongst the Jewish people. The evils of anti-Semitism and the death of European free speech

These photos tell an amazing and connected story between the rising tide of anti-Semitism and the death of freedom of speech in Europe. America beware! The top photo is of the Pope and my distant cousin, Arthur Schneier. ( by Voice of America) Can you believe the head of such a large Christian denomination reinstates a Bishop who denies the Holocaust? After such a world wide outcry, the Bishop now has to recant (nothing yet) or he'll be handling the diocese in Antarctica. The Pope met with a Jewish delegation at the Vatican and my cousin was there as one who addressed him. How this will end is anyone's guess right now but it seems impossible that anyone who knows anything about the Nazi records and photos could doubt the existence of the Holocaust, It's really about undermining the existence of Israel anyway. By the way, it's a crime in Germany to publicly air such doubts.

The middle photo (by Marcel Antonisse/EPA) is of a Dutch parliamentarian who was denied entry into the UK because he spoke out against Islam. When Muslims worldwide speak out daily against Jews, no one seems to care and no one is being charged with a crime for doing it. Double standard award goes to the UK. I strongly encourage all to read Londonistan by Melanie Philips and pray we don't slide into the death of free speech like in the UK.

Finally, up to the plate in the bottom photo is that easy target for satire, President Chavez. (Photo AP) He says he doesn't hate Jews but now the government is saying that the attack on the synagogue in the free country of Venezula was really the fault of the Jews. Here's what was written in the Washington Post (2/12/09) about the climate of hate that fostered this attack,

"After Israel's offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip last month, the caudillo expelled Israel's ambassador and described Israel's actions in Gaza as "genocide." Then Mr. Chávez turned on Venezuela's Jews. "Let's hope that the Venezuelan Jewish community will declare itself against this barbarity," Mr. Chávez bellowed on a government-controlled television channel. "Don't Jews repudiate the Holocaust? And this is precisely what we're witnessing." Government media quickly took up the chorus. One television host close to Mr. Chávez blamed opposition demonstrations on two students he said had Jewish last names. On a pro-government Web site, another commentator demanded that citizens "publicly challenge every Jew that you find in the street, shopping center or park" and called for a boycott of Jewish-owned businesses, seizures of Jewish-owned property and a demonstration at Caracas's largest synagogue.

So hold on to your hats as this world loses its mind with hateful words and deeds against the Jews while on the other side trying to jail those who speak the truth about the violent agenda of radical Islam.

To Odessa in May, 2009

Just made final arrangements to be in Odessa and Nikolaiv from April 29th through May 12th. During that time Ukraine has 10 days of holidays to celebrate workers and to remember those who lost their lives in WWII. The posters to the left depict these two holiday themes. Nothing gets done for 10 days except for one long party so its a good time to have a leadership retreat in nearby Nikolaiv, a city that used to be closed to anyone except those who lived there. I will be leading the retreat with Pastor Barry Boucher of The Life Centre in Ottawa, Canada. He's a great guy and a big fan of the God of Israel, the Jews and the Jewish Messiah, Yeshua (Jesus). Please pray for our travel there and what the Lord has us to bring to these dear leaders. One of my favorite scriptures that should stir all those who have an opportunity to serve in the body of Messiah is, "But we were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children. So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become very dear to us." (I Thess. 2:7-8).

Our hope is that these leaders will take seriously the admonition of Yeshua and not think like the nations, like the rest of the world, who want to lord themselves over their people and exercise great authority over them. Yeshua said, "Let it not be so among you, but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave - just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." (Mat. 20: 25 -28). It's ok to want to be great in the body so that you can be a servant and a slave and give your life as a ransom for many. Yehsua said we should let them do that, to those who want such a way of greatness, and implied we should not hinder them. But at the end of it, those who want such greatness should realize they are just being made a payment for the rescue and freedom of others. It's not about titles, power and glory but about setting the captives free, binding up the broken hearted, proclaiming liberty to the captives and preaching good news to the poor. Shabbat - Joy or Legalism

This coming Friday night I will be teaching on the Shabbat (Sabbath) at the American Church of Paris at 7:30pm on Friday, Feb. 13th (I am definitely not superstitious). Hopefully, it will be the first in a series of teachings/discussions of the Feasts of the Lord and what relevance they have to the Jewish and Gentile believers in the body of Messiah today. Are these feasts valuable roots to a tree of life or outdated legalisms that push out God's grace from our lives? Many Christians are sure that a Sabbath day of rest is not for them, but how and why have we gotten to that point? Anyway, the Sabbath can only be on Sunday, right? Is the Sabbath made for man as Yeshua, Jesus, said and what does that mean? What has western culture lost when rest and development of community that thrives on rest is removed from the picture? From the streets of Paris

So I was minding my business at a cafe preparing for a teaching next week on Shabbat (Feb. 13th at 7:30pm at the American Church of Paris) and all of a sudden about 20 vans of riot police showed up and cordoned off the little traffic circle near where I was sitting. These guys look like a black and blue version of the all white Darth Vader troops, with full riot armor on. A few students tried to get by the wall of men with clear shields and they were simply pushed aside. Since we live at the Sorbonne we will need to get used to these types of police responses to scheduled demonstrations and protests that are always happening in our area. They even post signs in the buses and metro when service will be disrupted due to "manifestations," the French word for public, pre-planned disturbances. No one could say who were the demonstrators or what the massive police buildup was about. Most commented, "It's the students again." A still small voice said inside of me, "You were born for this." We are recovering from jet lag and getting back into the flow of life in Paris. Monday, we met with a local guy who has a lot of experience with organizing events in France. He told us something that gives a picture of life here: The French develop relationships before they organize anything and maintaining a real relationship is key to walking together. They can support events that Americans organize but that will not bring lasting fruit if we have our event and then just leave and not be heard from again. This was so important to know if we want to bring new flows of the Spirit into France that won't be just a flash in the pan. As one writer put it, the God of Israel is not the God of the show. This is especially important as we begin to lay the groundwork for Chuck Pierce of Glory of Zion to share here in the fall of 2009. We were told that many in France are skeptical or distrust the restoration of apostles and prophets to the body of Messiah yet without these gifted leaders the body is not complete and its destiny is hindered. We were also told of apostolic leaders weeping because of the rejection of their annointing and no avenue to fulfill their calling. We had a chance to view French life from the inside Saturday night by attending a building party near the Louvre. The residents of a six story building invited friends to come and spend an evening together. Each apartment opened its doors and people milled around the building enjoying seeing old and making new friends. You can't get into the building unless your name is on the list and you have ID. Each apartment provided food and drinks for the moving celebration and the conversations reverberated through the halls and stairwells. We have been invited to a small followup meeting of some people who were interested in what we are doing in France. This is what we shared about in the US in January, that living our destiny involves small daily steps to discover the great plan God has for us. Our faithfulness in responding to God's still small voice to "Lech Lecha," to get up and go, keeps us on our path to our daily destiny. It's a wild ride and worth every step we take.

It's 6:15 am our time in Paris and jet lag has confused our sleep. We were treated as gold and platinum at JFK even though we're just common frequent flyers and we got here with all of our bags! The work on our apartment was basically finished so no holdups there except for the cable news channels having been turned off some how while we were gone. Everything goes into high gear starting today and we need your prayers for:
1. Meeting with a Paris event organizer on Monday, Feb 2nd, to begin forming a team to plan for Chuck Pierce to share prophetically in Paris in the fall of 2009.
2. Planning a European Messianic Jewish gathering in 2010 by meeting with IAMCS and European congregational/fellowship leaders in May of 2009.
3. Renewing our times of sharing with young Jewish believers in Paris.
4. Opening contacts with the Inter Varsity chapter in Paris at the Sorbonne.
5. Planning a national teaching conference with former muslims in the fall of 2009
6. Beginning teaching about the Feasts of the Lord at the American Church of Paris on Feb. 13th.
7. Followup on Jewish people the Lord has brought into our path.
8. Planning for and setting the dates of a Messianic leadership conference led by David and Barry Boucher in Nikolaiv, Ukraine in May of 2009.
9. Setting our itinerary for this summer in the US.
10. Finding time for reading and writing.
